Comment Section News

SO.

The comment system I use for EA has decided to turn on ads within the comment section itself, and wants me to pay a monthly fee to turn them off again. I don’t normally balk when a business wants to earn money off their service, but 1) they were a free plugin for years and only recently moved to this model, 2) they had originally said small non-commercial sites like mine wouldn’t be subject to ads, but here we are, and 3) I can’t even curate what ads would run.

The ads are text-only and are only appearing at the very bottom of the comments section as that was the least intrusive option they let you pick, but I’m still incredibly annoyed. I don’t run any ads on my site and if I ever chose to, it certainly wouldn’t be the shitty click-bait spam garbage they’re currently showing.  ヾ( ・`⌓´・)ノ゙

I’m looking at other options for comment systems, but trying to find ones that are widely used, updated regularly, and allow for import of existing comments is proving to be difficult, which is why a lot of sites use this system to begin with. Currently, I use an adblocker extension and it blocks all their ads. I whitelist comic sites so the artist will earn revenue, but those are generally ads that they want to run and have pre-approved.

In my case, I sure didn’t ask for and don’t approve of the crappy ads being served up at the bottom of the comments section of my site, so please, use an adblocker when you visit so you don’t have to lay eyes on them! ᕙ(⇀‸↼‶)ᕗ The only trash I want you seeing here is the sweaty nude kind I draw, thanks!
